Phantom amethyst is a rare and gorgeous stone and these are even more special due to its trapiche, or wheel, design.
These layers of stone, called phantoms, are formed when the growth of a quartz crystal is interrupted by external factors, such as changes in pressure, temperature, or mineral availability. The interrupted growth creates a new quartz layer, and then growth resumes, encasing the previous layer within the crystal.
